In 2006 the City of New Smyrna Beach presented the Historical Preservation Award to the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum commemorating the importance of preserving the history of the New Smyrna Beach West Side Community.
On April 13th 2007, the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
In 2008 the State of Florida Division of Historical Resources presented an official State Historical Marker documenting the historical presence of the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum.
